About

Artisan Modern is a an approach to home life.

We encourage serene space in which every object is one you love to look at, touch, or use.

We encourage acquisition of objects that have history, symbolism, sculptural qualities, or an inexplicable spark for you. [We encourage letting go of objects that don’t.]

We encourage self-activity, and self-creation. Slow, careful curating of your objecterie reflects back to you your intuition, sensibility, and energy, part of becoming fully human.

We encourage objects that reflect the principles and values of Bauhaus, the British Arts & Crafts Movement, Scandinavian Design, and Slow Home.

We encourage the support of artisans, by purchasing directly from them and by patiently seeking them out when you need a new object.

We encourage use, care, and preservation of vintage objects.

This blog will highlight carefully selected products, artisans, stores, and concepts. It is curated.

“Cute” is not enough to get an object onto this blog. Objects must be essential, haunting, and elegant.

Because you cannot subsist on design alone, and because our the ideas here are so strongly inspired by those of Slow Food, the blog includes postings on ingredients, food markets, and special restaurants.
